Innovation in Slovenian tourism

Bank of Tourism Potentials in Slovenia - BTPS (English / Slovene) - national mechanism to spur innovation and increase the innovative potential of tourism in Slovenia (www.BTPS.si) based on Dejan Krizaj's idea and leadership / quality of the project recognised by various national and international institutions, including UNWTO), the European Commission and the Public Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Entrepreneurship and Foreign Investments


Sejalec - annual national award for most innovative and creative tourism achievements


Snovalec - annual national financial stimulation (over 40.000 Euros) and support for realization of the most promising BTPS idea deposits

Innovative Slovenian travels - explore Slovenia via awarded, new and different tourism products and services

BTPS Challenges (only in Slovene) - annual web-based crowdsourcing competition where real-life problems of Slovenian tourism facilities are solved by an undefined group of people through an open call

Heb-Vet - Fit for the Job!

Project Goals: Students are unaware of the importance of their health, shall they remain competitive on the labour market until their 60s. Project partners will approach the young (both in educational institutions and at work places) in an innovative, attractive way. Days of Health will be organized in partner institutions. The form of these events remains to be shaped and decided on through the experience and best-practice exchange.  Days of Health will be recorded and a set of recommendations for the integration of health issues into VET prepared.

National Activities:
- organization of the Day of Health
- compilation of Slovenian best-practices in the field of integration of health issues into kindergartens, schools, faculties and work places
- contribution to the teachers' and trainer's manual
- organization of a project partner meeting

SMID

Project: Slovenska mreža za interpretacijo dediščine (Slovenian Network for Heritage Interpretation), supported by Ministry of Public Administration of Slovenia
Duration: 20 August 2010 - 30 September 2012
Partners:

Members: over 50 Slovenian NGOs, working in the field of heritage interpretation

Goals: strengthening of cooperation among NGOs in the field of natural and cultural heritage interpretation in order to 1) develop efficient civil dialogue and 2) train network members for project management and raise public awareness about the importance of NGOs

Basis: Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society

Four main fields of SMID network activities:
1)      Civil dialogue

2)      NGO service support

3)      Sustainability of SMID network

4)      Raising awareness about NGO sector

Involvement of Zavod Novi turizem:
- preparation of joint NGO recommendations to be included in the new strategy of development of Slovenian tourism
- volunteers and heritage interpretation
- heritage interpretation as part of tourism economy and regional development know-how
- consulting for NGOs (Bank of Tourism Potentials in Slovenia, project management, accessible tourism)

Erasmus for young Entrepreneurs

Programme: Erasmus for young Entrepreneurs

Goals: Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is a new cross-border business exchange programme aimed at helping new or would-be entrepreneurs to acquire the relevant skills for managing a small or medium-sized enterprise and experienced businessmen or women, looking for fresh perspectives and international cooperation opportunities. The Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme puts innovative ideas into practice. Exchange of knowledge and experience, better business networking possibilities across Europe and new commercial relations for European businesses are guaranteed.

New entrepreneur Juan Lopez will get the chance to meet many experienced Slovenian entrepreneurs and tourism businesses. Mentored by Dejan Križaj, he will travel around Slovenia and discover Slovenian tourism both from the tourist and the business point of view. His goal is to open own tourist agency upon return to Salamanca, Spain. You can read about his Slovenian experience in this blog.
